In the neighbourhood El Ingenio in Cali, Colombia, was carried out the bioremediation of the bottom of the Meléndez River affected by a fuel spill.
The great challenge of this procedure was that the environmental authority did not allow the contaminated material in the bottom of the river to be decontaminated outside, fearing to damage the impermeability of the riverbed. For this task, a technological application was designed to allow to do this work without removing the contaminated material from the river.
It should be borne in mind that the treatment was made with the river in its natural flow, ie, at all times water ran on the riverbed.
An Enzymatic Mix was used to perform bioremediation in the most efficient way, and this efficiency of bioremediation had exceeded 90% after 20 days.
